GNOME

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Lovely little cafe on Crown Street. I tried their special of the day: sourdough toast with goats cheese, balsamic and grilled tomatoes. Yummy! They are always busy, but it’s worth the wait to get a table! You can always browse in the small shops across the street meanwhile as well.

I can never have enough of these muffins! They are inspired by an African recipes I got from Annlaug.
  • 1 1/2 dl orange juice
  • 100g dried cranberries
  • a handful of fresh lemon grass leaves

Combine and let it stand for ten min.

  • 2 eggs
  • 1tsp baking soda
  • 1dl soft honey
  • 1 1/2 dl butter milk
  • 3 1/2 ts baking powder
  • 1 dl sunflower oil
  • 150g oats
  • 100g roasted muesli
  • 1 1 /2 dl dark rye
  • 200g whole meal flour
  • 100g flour
Beat the eggs and add the orange juice mix and rest of the ingredients. Combine well and fill the muffin cups up so it covers 3/4 of the cup .
Topping
  • 50g roasted muesli
  • 30g brown sugar
  • 1/2 dl olive oil
  • 1 tsp mixed spices
Fry all the ingredients on the pan for a few minutes. Drizzle the topping on the muffins before you put them in the oven.
Bake on 180 degrees for 15 min.
For more fruity muffins, fill just the bottom of the cups with dough before you add 1 tsp of your favourite jam. Fill rest of the cup and bake as usual.

It’s so funny how the guy in the window starts with abusing them for making noise in the street, and then instead ends up throwing money out the window at the end!

SURRY HILLS

Outside of Manly, this is my favourite place in Sydney! Love the village feeling, with small boutique shops, cafes and restaurants.

These photos are taken with my Golden Half camera on 35mm film. I picked up this film from the photo lab the other day, surprised to find all my photos as singles, not double like they are supposed to be. The kind lady behind the desk explained that she had spent a lot of time in Photoshop separating the photos from each other and that she had to charge me the double for the extra work. So now it’s not really Golden Halfs anymore, but they still look good. Next time I will have to be a bit more specific when i hand them in.

They also have homeware, clothes, fabrics, jewellery  and books, all from the Northern part of Europe. Thanks to them we can still get most things that we miss from home just around the corner in Manly. The book “Collected” is also in their store now.
