AUTUMN

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

The parks around Oslo is stunning now! This is in The Botanical Gardens. I’m embracing this time now with the leaves still on. It wont be long now before the trees are bare and the snow is just around the corner. Not sure if I feel ready for it yet.

USED AND BORROWED

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Saturday I met Toril, one of many retro kitchenware collectors around. She was very kind to let me borrow some of her treasures for my pics. I was just running out of props for my photos, and I’ve been searching through my local second hand store enough times, so this little box of “new” plates and cups was just what I needed. Thanks Toril! The white bowl is from Porsgrund and the greens are from Figgjo Flint.

GRAND HOTEL OSLO

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Today I was rushing past Grand Hotel when I suddenly just stopped for a second, took this photo and went on. The hotel is a nice majestic building and today has been a stunning day! I was wishing I had the whole day just wandering around and taking photos. It hasn’t taken long before Oslo has turned into everyday life and you forget to look around as a tourist.

LIASÆTRA OG BRENNSNUT

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Brennsnut is the meal that has been served in Norwegians homes for decades. It’s the stew where all leftovers from previous dinners are all mixed together. Doesn’t sounds too intriguing? It’s much tastier then it sounds like and now compare to old days we use the finest types of meet and vegetables specially bought for the stew. The mix of salty meat and vegetables is a classic combo and it is better if you let it rest for a while before reheating.

Brennsnut ala Ottar

Serves 4 hungry ones

  • 300g lamb, cut into cubes and lightly fried on the pan
  • 1 lamb bone
  • 3 sausages, already boiled
  • 10 Swedish meatballs, cooked
  • 2 liter of water
  • 4 carrots
  • 1 swede
  • 8 potatoes
  • 1 spring onion

Let the water, bone and lamb meat boil for about an hour. Meantime chop all vegetables and sausages into small squares. Remove bone and add vegetables, meatballs and sausages. Boil until vegetables are soft, approximately 20 min. Serve immediately or let cool and heat when your come back hungry from a long walk.

Veronica Fraticelli

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

If you went to Oslo Fashion Week this year you probably noticed Veronica in the crowd of fashionistas, standing out with her own style in a striking red outfit inspired by the 50′s. The day we met she was a bit more dressed down, but still very unique in her personal eccentric way. Veronica is from Poland, but speaks fluent Norwegian, which is quite impressing, since she has only been in Norway for 15 months. She loves the brown cheese and the salmon here, but finds it hard to find places that serve typical Norwegian food. She finds the Norwegian style a bit conservative and safe. “It’s a lot of H&M and Gina Tricot” She said. On the photo above she is wearing tights and a shirt from a net shop called www.restyle.pl, skirt from TopShop, cape from Monki, earrings from a shop called “LeSwing” in Barcelona and bracelet also from a shop in Barcelona.

Veronica’s top 5 places for vintage shopping in Oslo is:

  • Fretex, Markveien, Grunerløkka
  • Møllergata Retro
  • Et Dukkehjem, Markveien
  • Reprise, Schweigaards gate, Gammlebyen
  • Frøken Dianas salong, Markveien

Veronica is also blogging, check out her blog here.

Moods of Norway at Flø

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010
This little shop became the first shop for the little village Flø, with only a population of 160 people. It’s one of Moods of Norway’s outlet shop. Along with this store they opened the one in Beverly Hills as well. The contrast couldn’t have been bigger. And while the store in Beverly Hills is introducing Norwegian culture to the celebrities, the store at Flø is adding more glamour to the village, and brings travellers from all over the place. At their stores you will find that the fitting room is also an outdoor toilet, and you will be served waffles while browsing for a new bright colourful suit.
Next time I go there I will check the opening times before going. It’s only open Thursday, Saturday and Sundays from 12 to 6. We were there on a Wednesday….

Another reason for going to Flø is a beautiful little beach, some nice architecture and some great ideas for outdoor furnishing.

A fun big flower pot.

JUVET

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

The perfect getaway for the weekend! Here you can do trout fishing, grouse hunting, or you can let the guides show you around and learn you more about the Norwegian culture and geology of the scenic area. The rooms are small, but you feel like you got all the space you need with a view over the spectacular landscape around you. The cabins got a wall replaced by glass, some got two walls. Non of the rooms are looking at each other, which gives each place a different, and always changing view with the time of season and day.

The spa is located right above the river. The heat from the sauna and peaceful surroundings should make you relaxed for rest of the weekend.

This project started 2004 by Knut Slinning, and 2008 they open it for guest. The architects are Jensen & Skodvin Arkitektkontor . Juvet was the first landscape hotel opening in Europe.

SUNDAY IN OSLO

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Me and Line just happen to stroll past Birkelunden market today. Quite lucky since I found some new plates and cups for my small growing collection. It’s a good market for cups and plates from the 40′s and 50′s, Vinyl, books and some furniture. Open every Sunday.

At the moment I’m looking for an old retro style classic bike, preferable with a basket at the front! Please let me know if you know about one. It will be for a shoot so doesn’t need to be functional.
