MAMA SHELTER

Saturday, April 16th, 2011

Mama Shelter, an inspiring and entertaining hotel in Paris. Always something to look at, read or games to play. We never actually took the time to do either of this while there. Paris is a big city with many corners and alleys to check out, so no time playing boardgames. The hotel is designed by the designer Philipe Starck. It’s very playful done, and the place is full of small funny details. The roof at the toilets has a small TV showing old french movies, face masks are hanging over light bulbs in your room and the tables in the pizzeria has got boardgames painted on them. At the weekend there is live music or Djs playing. I do recommend this place!

Cafe Laundromat

Underhaugsveien 2 0354 Oslo -phone  21 38 36 29

This cafe was one of the first cafes I discovered when moving back to Oslo. I have been planning for a while taking some photos there and finally this morning I did. I love the interior and feel of this place. With all the bookshelves (4000 books) vintage chairs and a “fireplace” in the corner you can get comfortable here for hours. They serve breakfast from 7.am in the morning and are open until late everyday. Great place to come in the morning for a long quiet breakfast and a good read, or in the evening with friends. And yes, you can do your laundry here as well!

VESPA CAFE

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

On the weekends I miss being in Manly, waking up from the sun that gets in your face, strolling down to the beach for a walk or a game of volley and then breakfast with friends. We almost always had breakfast out on the weekends. Either at Jellyfish, Bench or Interpolitan. The other day I found this little cafe just a ten minutes walk from our house, it really reminds me about the cafes in Sydney, and specially Grigons and Or in Melbourne. If I could order a big bowl of fruit with Greek yogurt and honey and a soy latte it would almost be like I’m in Manly for a few hours.

Vespa cafe is at Kjøpenhavnsgate 2, Oslo. They do catering and has a deli section with cheeses, meat, jams and vegetables. They have a good candy selection as well.

FOOD STORY

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Food Story is were the food is organic, and herbs are growing in the back yard. Sundays they have lunch buffets with salmon, trout, omelet, pancakes with blueberries and the best chocolate brownie to finish it all with.

They also have a small deli section were you can get bread, seeds, crackers, homemade jams and other nice foodie things.

GNOME

Lovely little cafe on Crown Street. I tried their special of the day: sourdough toast with goats cheese, balsamic and grilled tomatoes. Yummy! They are always busy, but it’s worth the wait to get a table! You can always browse in the small shops across the street meanwhile as well.

SAINT-GERMAIN PATISSERI

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

Last week I stumbled across this cosy little cafe in Redfern. The cafe was warm and comfortable, and the smell of their freshly baked bread with newly roasted coffee lured me in to having my second breakfast for the day. Not even a slightly bit hungry!

The big bookshelf with old and new cookbooks are there for you to browse and get ideas from. Why not plan the next meal while you’re having one? They are open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday, and for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week.
